Hi folks
I am trying to figure out the fastest way to get 6 Exchange Databases totalling 1.5TB in size (SITE A), which are hosted on a Windows VM on VSphere, , to SITE B (1 mile apart).
To copy these across the network is going to take upwards of 25 hours (I have to reduce this to 8hrs or so!!. SITE B Also has VSphere and Windows VM's waiting to accept the Databases.
I was hoping to test the throughput copy speed of a USB 3.0 External device, Directly connected to Source ESX (SITE A), and copying these 6 files onto the External HDD. It will take me a few days time to get this setup because I have to deal with some reticent Sys Admins on the Source VSphere system.......
- Has anyone had success (Without too much fiddling) connecting an external USB HDD to an ESX Server on VSphere and then presenting this to a Windows VM?
- If so, what sport of copy speeds to did you see copying ONTO the USB HDD?
- Essentially, Can I expect to copy this 1.5TB onto the External HDD in well under 13hrs??
I will potentially\probably have to copy it BACK onto my destination VM SAN storage, which will also take time.
Long story short, I'm trying to find the fastest way to get 1.5 TB from 1 place to the other....
Any experiences of this?
