Sorry - please explain what you mean with:

No the starting and ending of the vmfs5 is gpt partition table in forward and reverse order.

The vmdk flat will be contiguous ... that is not correct. flat.vmdks are written in one piece as long as the required free space is available in one piece - if the flat.vmdk does not fit in one piece it will be fragmented
