We are in the process of implementing our new Dell EQL iSCSI SAN.This is giving me opportunity to re-architect my datastores, and I'd welcome any input.
On the outgoing Hitachi FC SAN we have 6 Datastores (VMFS3) that were created pretty much according to available space at the time of creation. They are 2 x 1.5TB, 2 x 750GB, 2 x 500GB. Additionally there are 3 x 1TB VMFS3 datastores on an existing standalone EQL box.
My current thoughts are to create new datastores on the new EQL SAN, each of 1TB. And then to migrate, just storage vMotion the VMs into the stores based on size, I/O workload.
Any recommendations?
Current 6 x ESXi hosts are ESXi 4.0, 2 new incoming are going to be 5.0, vCenter is currently 5.0. Waiting to get around to upgrading the other hosts, but in Higher Education IT, Summer is a busy time :-/
