We are looking for advices on shared iSCSI SAN storage among 3 hosts. We have 3 Dell PowerEdge R620 and Dell Equallogic PS4100E storage. We know about VMWare storage vMotion which allows us to shared this iSCSI SAN and moving VMs among the hosts. From the licensing point, VMWare Essential kit will work for our HW infrastructure (3 hosts). We will host about 15 2nd tier VMs so the infrastructure will have some capacity for future expansion. Because these VMs are 2nd tier, the service level allows for an hour disruption if we have to transfer the VM image over to other host. These 3 hosts have very minimal internal storage because we hope to host all the VMs on the shared storage.
At the moment, we are looking for advice on storage setup so we can share this Dell PS4100E among the 3 hosts. We will discuss about the missing features in the Essential kit vs Enterprise one later.
