I guess I'm not the only one, we've had some interesting problems over the last few weeks so now I'm actually learning about the storage, IOPs etc!
The monitoring of our P2000 is fairly poor, I can't get anything decent from the web interfaces and the Performance monitoring tool is no longer available so I'm limited to what information I can get from that.
Now as I said, I've been trying to learn so I'll probably start asking some VERY stupid questions!
The two main Datastores we've got are the following.
9 x 600GB SAS RAID5 estimated 650 IOPs (40/60 R/W)
8 x 600GB SAS RAID10 estimated 1100 IOPs (40/60 R/W)
For the last few nights I've been using esxtop to monitoring CMD/s (which I believe roughly translates to IOPs) when the exchange server starts it backup this figures heads north of 4000 CMD/s
I assumed I was wrong with my understanding and had a look at the vmware performance graph is showed around 1200 IOPs against the RAID5 DS (650)
I've now installed Veeam One to hopefully last night give me some more information.
Last night around the time the backup started it shows 5000 (see Graph1 and Graph2 attachment) the P2000 show's almost nothing during this time (see P2000 attached)
Anyone got any ideas of how this is possible,
FYI - there's only a 4Gb cache in the P2000.
Thanks all!
