vswp, vmdk or vmsd files left behind on datastore after VM deleted from disk?

Are there any scenarios when VMware will be failing to completely delete VM from the disk, meaning even though VM is successfully deleted in vSphere, VM directory is left behind on datastore with some random VM files?

Most times I see files with extension .vswp, .vmsd , .vmdk or <vmname>-aux.xml left behind on datastore with their parent VM directories.
