Correctly deleting a datastore to avoid an APD

I would like to make sure I have this correct---having had to fix an APD before from someone else

1. Delete the datastore in vCenter

2. Refresh host storage---not needed I guess, but I guess verifies datastore is gone from all ESX hosts.

3. I should not have to rescan the HBAs at this point correct?

4. Remove the datastore from the hosts, via San. Ie how the San assigns the datastore to the hosts

5. At this point I believe I should re-scan the HBAs to ensure the device disappears.

There should be no APDs doing this correct? Between step #4 and #5 there is of course a device available to create a VMFS partition. #5 should remove that device---and SHOULD NOT generate an APD or PDLs correct?

Thank you, just be extra cautious.
