I have Dell Compellent Storage in my environment with storage center OS 6.3.10. I would like to know that how VAAI will work. As i understand through Video and VMware VAAI guide it will improve cloning operation if your source LUN and Destination LUN are available to same ESX server. Like both LUN's are mounted to the same ESX then it will off load SCSI command to the storage level, I monitored the value CLONE_RD and CLONE_WR in this case and it shows the value when i start cloning.
Present Environment::
We have a dedicated Template server where i am providing LUN from Dell compellent and all my templates are stored on this LUN. MY ESX farm's LUN also residing on Dell Compellent. So when i start deploying VM VAAI is not working because source and destination ESX is not the same.
So how can i take the advantage of VAAI in my environment.
