Thanks for the advice. I have updated the driver:

/tmp/vib # esxcli software vib list | grep ixgbe

net-ixgbe                      3.7.13.7.14iov-11vmw.550.0.0.1331820  VMware  VMwareCertified   2014-09-18

And also restarted the host, but the option to add FCoE adapter is still greyed out unfortunately.
