A single vmfs vmdk cannot be locked by both powered on VMs at the same time. So you have to change your configurations a bit here. First delete the vmfs volume which u have created on the LUN , make sure you don't have any other vmdks on it, do storage vmotion to other datastores.

  1. Delete the vmdk which u created (shared).
  2. Then delete the vmfs volume on the LUN device. Do not touch the zoning part.
  3. Make sure this shared LUN does not have a file system on it.
  4. Now go to the first VM, and add a hard disk. Here use add disk as RDM option. Point to the shared LUN device which you have for this purpose.
  5. Now shut down the VM1 where you added the vmdk
  6. Repeat the procedure for VM2.
  7. Now power off the VM2, am power on VM1.
  8. Create ntfs file system on the disk from within the OS.
  9. Now power on VM2. Rescan the disk in disk manager inside the OS.

Let me know if this works.

Thanks,

Thor.
