Re: Auto Tiering Mystery

Hi Aaron,

wow, thanks a lot for this detailed response, i almost gave up hoping for a response. This is indeed very helpful for me. So if i understand you correctly

- Progression to lower tiers is not something that is happening on the fly, it is triggered by a schedule. Do you know if this schedule can be configured by the user (if i would be able to schedule that once a week or maybe once a month, maybe that would help me)

- Tiers are somehow configured in a Storage Profile. Do you know if this profile can be configured by the user

- Data Progression is somehow dependent on snapshots that i take., This concept sounds strange to me. Do you know where i can read a bit more about that to better understand how this works and why this makes sense.

I come from a Netapp environment what worked really good for us, so this whole tiering stuff is new to me. We also looked at other storage vendors, Nimble, Pure Storage, Tintri etc. While we found a lot of them from the technological view very interesting the problem for us used to be support. Virtualization is a key technology for us, some development projects have a virtualization degree of 100% so every machine involved in the process of software creation is a virtual machine. We are in Germany and we simply did not get the level of enterprise support like Netapp, EMC, DELL has to offer with smaller vendors. Shame on me Tegile is new to me, but i will look into it.

Thanks a lot again for your detailed reply

Regards

Wolfgang
