Hey, gents.
Have a quick question. We have improperly provisioned VMFS datastore on production VM, basically, SAN LUN size is 1.99TB and virtual disk was created as thin provisioned and 2TB.
vSphere shows no free space. I am planning to grow datastore, we found 100GB additionally on SAN and I an add it from vSphere.
I am just not sure, do we need to shutdown VM to perform this change?
I guess no, because Guest OS should see no changes - disk stays 2TB, changes will happen only on vSphere level.
If I understand correct VMware documents about VMFS, one of the main benefits of VMFS is:

Facilitates Dynamic Growth
Through the use of a volume management layer, VMFS enables an interface to storage resources so that several
types of storage (Fibre Channel, iSCSI and FCoE) can be presented as datastores on which virtual machines can
reside. Enabling dynamic growth of those datastores through aggregation of storage resources provides the
ability to increase a shared storage resource pool without incurring downtime.
Does it mean that I don't have to Shutdown Guest OS to perform this type of changes?
Thank you in advance!
