Current general ideas and thinking about LUN sizing??

When I started with vSphere in 2007-08 the thinking was more toward a greater number of smaller LUNs.

Now with vSphere 6 etc. having more LUN capacity it seems to make sense to have fewer larger LUNs.

Is it now a more acceptable practice to have bigger LUNs?? Are there any caveats involved??
