Actually, we have requirement to make the SCSI ID consistent on several ESXi hosts connected with multiple datastores. We have planned to do it the following way:
1) Disable HA and DRS to manual
2) vMotion off all the VMs from the ESXI host
3) Unmount and Detach all datastores from the ESXi hosts.
4) Unmap the storage (LUN) from the ESXi host
5) Map the LUNs back with consistent SCSI IDs.
6) Then Attach, Mount, and Rescan the storage.
Would like to know on Step 3 that is instead of Unmount and detach all datastores ; if we just unmap all the LUNS from storage (after ensuring no VM run on that ESXI hosts from that data store) directly and then reboot the ESXI hosts will this have any negative impact. Is restarting the ESXI hosts is replacement for unmount and detach LUNs
