Large volumes, replication issues...

Hi all,

8x hosts on ESX4.1U2

Dell Equallogic PS6X00 series

We are preparing to upgrade to vSphere5.1

We have a fileserver with 4x 2Tb volumes presented directly using iSCSI initiator. The OS is a vmdk. Despite the odd hicup now and then it works okay.

However this is Tier1 server and we are replicating it to our ISP who provides the DR services. They are using Double-Take, but we are always having all sort of issues.

I thought about going vmdk, but performance wise direct access to SAN is better.

Our vmdk only VMs are replicated via Veeam6.5 with the odd snapshot issue, but going strong.

We have check the bandwidth used through the MPLS is this is not the bottleneeck between sites.

Our ISP uses a different storage vendor, therefore SAN-to-SAN would not be an alternative as far as I understand.

What do you guys use for replication for this volume size?

Comments are appreciated.

thanks, rb51
