Hi
I’m a newbie to vSphere 5 & am in the process of setting up a test lab. I will be using 2 x ESXi5 (HP 380 G5’s) hosts & a iSCSI SAN (380 G5). I am unsure of the best configuration for the SAN RAID set. I would appreciate some recommendations for best way to configure this small lab SAN.
Should I create 1x1.4TB R5 set or a 2x 700 GB RAID 5? Is one configuration better than the other?
he plan is create 2 LUNs, one per raid array & one VMFS per LUN. I maybe running about 5-7 VM’s per LUN, none of the VM’s being I/O intensive. The hosts also will not boot from the SAN.
SAN Configuration (HP 380 G5)
2 x DUAL core Xenon CPU
16 GB RAM
1 X P400 Controller
2 x 72 GB – RAID 1 (OS- ESXi5+ Open Filer)
6 x 300 10k SAS = 1.4 TB in RAID 5
Regards
Bob
