EMC has a technology called Fast VP where they balance the underlying disks and storage at night to make sure there aren't hot spots. Averaging out the IO's across all spindels to gain better performance.
Storage DRS in VMWare does the same thing with IO and space utilization.
Question: Running these two features on the same infrastructure; do they compliment each other, bang heads or address different aspects of the coin? Ultimately I need to understand how well they work together. There was a school of thought they may undu what the other just did. What are your understandings and best practice around these two technologies?
