Hi,
as i read Cormacs blog Virtual Volumes – A new way of doing snapshots | CormacHogan.com about VVOLs snapshot leveraging classic CoW mechanism from now on i wonder if the esxi 6.0 hypervisor *still* has to freeze the vm for a very short time period when the actual switch happens. Especially for VADP this might be an important one because it could eleiminate the worst nightmare of backup admins - especially with software clusters and unplanned failovers during classic snapshot freeze operations.
So - my question would be - when using the new VVOLs based snaphot CoW mechanism - will there still be short guest-freeze when snapshotting and consolidating snaphots or will there be no freeze at all aqnymore?
Best regards,
Joerg
