Hi....I have a weird question.
I am using vCenter 5.1.0b on 3 ESXi hosts running ESXi 5.1.0 (914609) and iscsi Dell EQL storage.
I have a Win7 64bit VM with 3 HDD, 2 of which are RDMs for storing backup data which was mounted to the OS as GPT disks.
How can I dis-mount the 2 RDM drives and mount them on another VM (running Win 2003 R2 or Win 2008) ?
The sysmtoms are as follows :
- In the beginning, I will create volumes on Dell EQL which I will be able to mount as RDM drives on any VM which I desired (a data store scan is requird on the ESXi hosts).
- After I had mounted the RDM drives to a VM (I have tried with VMs running Win7 & Win 2003 R20), I would format the drive into logical drives (D:\ or E:\).
- Data would be copies, created or moved into the drives. In this case, I have some issues backing large VMs, the cause was quite likely to be Win7 resource usage differs from the Server OS.
- I would power off the Win7 VM, edit the VM by removing the HDD(s).
- I would do a data store scan on the ESXi hosts and try to add HDD to a powered off Win 2003 VM.
- I would not be able to find the "ex-RDMs" or unmounted RDM volumes
Kindly advise....
