Did you allow the new ESXi box's IQN to connect to the LUN?
View ArticleRe: Running SAN VMs on a different ESX box
I don't believe so. I see my LUN has an "Initiator Group" that has the IQN of my 3.5 box. Do I add the IQN of my 5.0 box there? Can I have two at the same time? Thanks for the quick reply!

You'll need to add the IQN of all systems that need to access that LUN. Yes, you can have more than 1 in the group.

What happens if a vm fails and switch to another host and the vm has no active NPIV?
View ArticleRe: Raw device mapping on 3paR
NPIV is only an "add on" to the RDM mapping in the VM's settings, but still requires that all LUNs are presented to the hosts on which you want to access them. As long as the raw LUN is presented to...

It might be better just to change your claim rules, so that the proper path selection policy gets automtically selected for new devices.

You can upgrade the VMFS datastores online. No need for downtime, just click the Upgrade link for each datastore. The upgrade is done in a few seconds.RDM's are not affected. André

Exactly and then you just need to manage the exceptions like RDM's attached to MSCS hosts rather than every thing.
