Re: VMWare vSphere4 - esx3.5 - MD1000 - Configuration suggestions
Sorry to anyone following this post, have been sidetracked in another role. Unfortunately this was not resolved in my case as our ICT Unit converted all over to Hyper-V before resolution. Thanks to all...
View ArticleThinking about SAN chunk size
I did some Googling about SAN chunk size and VMFS 5 and found precious little information. In choosing a chunk size for VMFS 5, should the block size, or the sub-block be the primary consideration? I...
View ArticleRe: Thinking about SAN chunk size
I did pretty extensive testing on this a couple years ago. Was unable to identify any notable difference for normal workloads - mostly because guest IOs are passed through to the array untouched.

Unless you initially installed the host with ESXi 3.5, the partitions are ok for 5.1. To list the partitions run e.g. fdisk -lu. André

OK thanks. However, I'm still not clear about the exact definition of a storage pool within the storage system. In addition, different storage vendors use different terminology, and implement...

View ArticleRe: Storage Pool vs. Datastore Cluster
There's no standardized meaning for the term. Your 1st, 2nd and 3rd definitions have all been used by various vendors.
View ArticleRe: ibm 3512 vaai
You need Enterprise or better to use VAAI. There's nothing to install - once you have an appropriate license and a supported array (which the 35xx is), it will be automatically used whenever possible.

View ArticleRe: Setting MultiPathing Policies on a per-LUN basis
Multipathing policy is always set on a per LUN basis anyways (not per VM).
View ArticleRe: Setting MultiPathing Policies on a per-LUN basis
are there any negative impacts then to having different multipathing policies in use on different LUNs used by the same HA / DRS cluster?
View ArticleRe: Setting MultiPathing Policies on a per-LUN basis
No, not that I would know of. Basically the best option - if supported by the storage - is Round-Robin for most use cases, except e.g. MSCS as in your case. André
View ArticleRe: LUN sharing for Stornext VM's
Hi, You need to change the SCSI controller option in each VM, the right option is "physical" for the bus sharing. You need to change this with the VMs power off. Hope this be useful for you Regards
